Role description:
Our client is seeking an accomplished Project Manager to oversee the full lifecycle implementation of a Warehouse Management System (WMS) for the organisation. This critical role will manage all aspects of the project, including system design, configuration, testing, training, and deployment. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, external vendors, and key stakeholders to deliver the project on time, within scope, and budget, while ensuring it meets organisational objectives.
This is an 18-month fixed-term contract role, with the potential for extension. Occasional interstate travel and stays will be required. As a key figure in this high-impact initiative, you will play a pivotal role in transforming our logistics operations and laying the groundwork for long-term success. Prior experience with WMS platforms such as Koerber, Manhattan, or Blue Yonder will be highly advantageous.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Planning and Execution
- Lead the WMS implementation from initiation through completion, covering planning, execution, and project closure.
- Develop comprehensive project plans, including schedules, timelines, and deliverables.
- Define project scope, objectives, and milestones in collaboration with stakeholders.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams spanning IT, operations, logistics, and third-party vendors.
- Serve as the main point of contact for internal and external stakeholders throughout the project.
- Provide regular updates on project status, ensuring transparency and stakeholder alignment.
- Foster effective communication across departments to meet requirements and manage changes.
- Oversee the project budget to ensure optimal resource allocation and adherence to financial constraints.
- Identify and resolve resource gaps or budget issues that could impact timelines.
- Proactively identify and address project risks and issues, implementing effective mitigation strategies.
- Conduct ongoing risk assessments to minimise potential disruptions during implementation.
- Work closely with WMS vendors and internal teams to define requirements and ensure system configuration aligns with organisational needs.
- Manage the integration of WMS with other enterprise systems (e.g., ERP, CRM, inventory management) for seamless functionality.
- Lead training sessions to ensure staff adoption of the new WMS system across departments.
- Develop and implement a change management strategy to facilitate a smooth transition to new processes and technologies.
- Provide ongoing support and troubleshooting post-implementation.
- Oversee testing and validation processes to confirm the WMS performs as expected.
- Ensure any system bugs or discrepancies are resolved before go-live.
- Ensure a seamless transition from the project phase to ongoing operations, including providing support post-implementation.
- Monitor system performance and address any challenges that arise after launch.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Certifications such as PMP, Agile, or equivalent are highly desirable.
- At least 5 years of project management experience, including 3 years in WMS or similar software implementations.
- Solid experience in warehouse operations, logistics, and inventory management.
- Proven track record of managing cross-functional teams and collaborating with external vendors.
- Exceptional project management skills with the ability to handle complex projects, balancing multiple priorities within deadlines and budgets.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Deep understanding of WMS technologies, including configuration, integration, and troubleshooting.
- Excellent problem-solving skills to address complex technical and operational challenges.
- Proficiency in project management tools such as MS Project, Jira, or Asana.
- Strong leadership and team-building capabilities.
- Ability to thrive under pressure and adapt to changing project requirements.
- High attention to detail with a commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes.
- Versatility to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Flexibility to travel to interstate warehouse locations as needed.
